We Don’t Know What To Do

faith· grief· Life

22 Mar

This is such a strange time for all of us. Words like quarantine and social distancing are taking over our daily vocabulary. Indeed, they are our life at the moment. In my neighborhood, people argue over whether the kids should be at the basketball court, playground, etc. (I am in the no category).

Schools are canceled, and home learning is in place. We have homeschooled for years, so it isn’t much of a change for us. For most, this is a new endeavor—not wanted and not enjoyed. On top of the day-to-day changes for work schedules or not working at all, becoming a teacher is added stress.

If you know me or have followed my writing at all in the last six years, you may know that one of my favorite verses is 2 Chronicles 20:12.

. . . “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

I’ve repeated those words every day since my son’s passing in 2014. The truth in them is often so overwhelming that I speak them with gasping breaths as tears drench my cheeks.

The verse is certainly fitting for the days we are facing.

Keeping our eyes on Him is the only answer to our concerns, worries, fears, loss, and grief. We don’t have all the answers, but this didn’t take Him by surprise. Psalm 139:16

Taking care of our mental and emotional health is as important as the physical. Of course, we need to listen to and follow the guidelines set forth by the CDC—that is the first step to all of it. Then think of ways to keep busy while you are home. Take time away from the news media, the internet, and social media. Reconnect with your family, go for walks in your neighborhood, do some spring cleaning, or make those repairs you’ve been putting off.

Read! As an avid reader, this is at the top of my list.

Keeping in touch with loved ones is a must. There is the old-fashioned way—a phone call—or you can utilize your technology by using FaceTime, Skype, or other apps to see one another as you talk.

As someone with a close family member who has Covid-19, I understand the stress and anxiety we are all experiencing. I am praying for all of us. If you have a specific prayer request, please post it here or message me. I am honored to pray for you by name.

And because I can’t help but share it again,

. . . “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

2 Chronicles 20:12 (ESV)

As usual your words are so true. Thank you for the certain reminder of our God who cares during these uncertain times.
