I have always clearly been her favorite! I’m just putting it out there so my brother can know for sure the t- total truth! 😉 🙂
Well, I am at the very least her favorite granddaughter. There are only the two of us, and thankfully she had an abundance of love to share, so we both think we are the favorite! (It’s me)
I would say one of her best qualities is that she has always made everyone who came into the room feel as if they were her favorite.
If you came into the room, she would also feed you – most likely a delectable slice of her delicious pound cake. Her cakes were always warm and moist – no need for ice cream or any other topping. She made several a week. It remains my favorite cake to this day. She also had oranges and other fruits along with other homemade treats. But the cake was the way to go!
For many years, I thought the shape of her cake was her personal creation and specific to only her cake! Turns out – there’s a bunt cake pan to be bought at any store that sells such things. Hmmm!
She was always known for her cooking! The woman could cook “Pioneer Woman” into a corner. She always cooked with an apron on, and she looked good doing it. That’s the way she was. She just looked good doing whatever she was doing. She made it all look so easy.
She had beauty and grace that most of us just don’t have. She was confident and sure. She was brave, and she was funny. She was smart and hardworking. She was someone you just wanted to spend more time with.
She was part of a different generation. My little grands might say I make a mean waffle (that would be Eggo), and I would take that compliment for all its worth!!
Children are so busy with activities today. They will have memories of the grandparents sitting at their various sports events instead of pulling a warm cookie from the cookie jar or picking up pinecones together. The truth is that I wanted to be with her no matter what we were doing. As an adult, some of my best memories are of watching her love my own children. It doesn’t get much better than that!
How about you? How do/did your grandparents shape who you have become?
